Image enhancer
Sharper, cleaner and better colour, made on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
Choose a photo: blurry, grainy, dull or dark.
Press Enhance. AI sharpens it and removes noise, and light and colour are fixed.
Compare it with the original, then download it.
What the enhancer fixes
Blur and soft edges
AI redraws soft edges, hair and fabric, so the photo looks in focus.
Noise and grain
Removes the grain of low-light and old phone photos without smearing the picture.
Pixelation and JPG blocks
Smooths away the blocks and halos of photos compressed again and again, as chat apps do.
Dull, dark or yellowish colour
Auto light and colour restores flat contrast, brightens a dark photo and takes out most of a yellow or blue cast.
Problems and fixes at a glance
| Problem | What the enhancer does |
|---|---|
| Blurry or soft | Sharpens edges and fine detail with AI |
| Grainy or noisy | Removes noise and keeps texture |
| Blocky or pixelated | Smooths JPG blocks and jagged edges |
| Flat, washed out | Restores contrast with automatic levels |
| Too dark | Brightens the shadows, keeps the highlights |
| Yellow or blue tint | Takes out most of the colour cast |
Choose how much to change
- Size 1× keeps your photo's size and only improves it. This is where it starts.
- 2×, 3× or 4× also make it larger, as the image upscaler does.
- Turn off Auto light and colour to keep the photo's own colours and only sharpen and clean it.
Photos that gain the most
- Old phone photos: soft, grainy and often too dark.
- Photos saved from chat apps, which compress them each time they are sent.
- Scanned prints that have faded or turned yellow.
- Photos taken indoors or at night.
- Product photos that look dull next to others in a shop.
How the enhancer works
It works in two steps. First, auto light and colour measures your photo and corrects its levels, brightness and colour cast with plain code, so it adds no time. Then Real-ESRGAN, an open-source AI model made for real-world photos, sharpens it and removes noise, a small square at a time.
Both run in your browser, on your own phone or computer. The enhancer downloads once, about 18 MB, and your browser keeps it; your photo is never sent anywhere.
What enhancing can't do
- It doesn't rebuild faces: a face only a few pixels wide stays rough. Face restoration needs a far larger model than a browser can run.
- It can't repair tears, scratches or missing parts of an old photo.
- Strong motion blur and badly out-of-focus photos improve only a little.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enhance a photo?
Choose a photo and press Enhance. When it's done, compare it with the original and download it.
Is the image enhancer free?
Yes: no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit on how many photos you enhance.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The enhancer runs inside your browser. The first time, your browser downloads the enhancer itself, about 18 MB; your photo is never sent anywhere.
Can it fix a blurry photo?
It fixes mild blur well: soft edges, hair and fabric come out sharper. It can't invent detail that was never captured, and strong motion blur improves only a little.
Can it restore old photos?
It removes grain, fading and yellowing from scanned prints and sharpens them. It can't repair tears or scratches, or rebuild faces that are too small.
Does it increase the resolution?
At 1× the size stays the same. Choose 2×, 3× or 4× to make the photo larger too, up to 16 megapixels.
Can I brighten a dark photo or remove a yellow tint?
Yes, that's Auto light and colour, which is on from the start. It brightens dark photos, restores contrast and takes out most of a colour cast. Turn it off to keep the photo's own colours.
How long does it take?
Usually under half a minute on a computer and up to a minute or two on a phone, because it runs on your own device. You can cancel at any time.
