Image upscaler

AI that runs on your device: sharper and larger, and nothing is uploaded.

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or AVIF, up to 20 MB.

Your image stays on your device.

Upscale settings

Make it

2 times the width and 2 times the height, with detail redrawn by AI.

The first time, it downloads about 18 MB, which your browser then keeps.

It runs on your own device, so it can take a minute on a phone.

How to use it

  1. Choose an image: a small photo, a screenshot or a scan.

  2. Pick 1×, 2×, 3× or 4×, then press Upscale. It runs on your own device.

  3. Compare the result with the original, then download it.

Upscale an image 2×, 3× or 4×

2×: the everyday upscale

Twice the width and twice the height, four times the pixels. Right for a photo saved from a chat app, a small product photo or an image for a slide.

3× and 4×: for print and big screens

Turn a small image into one large enough for a poster, a print or a 4K screen. 4× makes sixteen times the pixels.

1×: clean up at the same size

Keeps the size and only removes blur, noise and the blocky marks of a heavily compressed JPG.

Private, free, no limits

Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. There is no daily limit, no sign-up and no watermark.

AI upscaling or ordinary resizing?

Ordinary resizing makes each pixel bigger, so edges turn soft and blocky. An AI upscaler has learned what sharp edges, hair, fabric and text look like, and draws the new pixels to match.

How big will my image be?

The result is your image's width and height times the size you pick, up to 16 megapixels. Sizes that would go over are switched off.

Images worth upscaling

  • Photos saved from WhatsApp, Messenger or Facebook, which shrink and compress them.
  • Product photos for a shop page that needs larger images.
  • Old digital photos from early phone cameras.
  • Screenshots, logos and graphics that look soft when shown bigger.
  • Anime, game and digital art.
  • A photo you want to print larger than its pixels allow.

How the upscaler works

ChobiKit uses Real-ESRGAN, an open-source AI model made for real-world photos. Your browser runs it on your own phone or computer, a small square at a time, so even a phone with 2 GB of memory can do it. The model always makes 4 times the pixels each way; for 1×, 2× and 3× its result is scaled with a high-quality filter.

The upscaler downloads once, about 18 MB, and your browser keeps it. Your image is read and processed on your device and never sent anywhere.

A large image is first reduced to a size your device can handle in about a minute, then brought to the full size you picked. That is why small images gain the most.

What upscaling can't do

  • It can't recover detail that was never captured: a face only a few pixels wide stays a guess.
  • Strong motion blur and out-of-focus photos improve only a little.
  • Tiny text may come out smooth but still unreadable.
  • For a blurry, grainy, dull or dark photo you want to keep at its size, the image enhancer is the better tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I upscale an image?

Choose an image, pick 2×, 3× or 4×, and press Upscale. When it's done, compare it with the original and download it.

Is the image upscaler free?

Yes, completely: no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit on how many images you upscale.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The upscaler runs inside your browser. The first time, your browser downloads the upscaler itself, about 18 MB; your image is never sent anywhere.

Can I upscale an image to 4K?

Yes. 4K is 3,840 by 2,160 pixels, so a 960 by 540 image at 4× becomes exactly 4K, and a larger one reaches 4K at 2× or 3×. The result can be up to 16 megapixels.

Does upscaling fix a blurry image?

It sharpens soft edges and removes noise and JPG blocks, which fixes most mildly blurry images. It can't recover detail that was never captured, such as a face that is only a few pixels wide.

Which image formats can I upscale?

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF, up to 20 MB. The result is saved as JPG, PNG or WebP, the same as your image where browsers can save it; HEIC and AVIF become JPG. Transparent PNG and WebP images keep their transparency.

How long does upscaling take?

Usually under half a minute on a computer and up to a minute or two on a phone, because it runs on your own device. You can cancel at any time.

Can I use the upscaled image commercially?

Yes. The image is yours: ChobiKit adds no watermark and claims no rights to it.
