Why convert WebP to PNG
- PNG keeps transparent areas, so logos and stickers saved from websites keep their see-through background.
- Apps and editors that don't open WebP, including many older ones, open PNG.
- PNG is lossless, so editing and saving it again won't lose any more detail.
WebP and PNG compared
| Feature | WebP | PNG |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Usually the smallest | Large for photos, small for flat graphics |
| Transparent areas | Yes | Yes |
| Quality | Lossy as ChobiKit saves it, at high quality | Lossless: every pixel kept |
| Opens in | Every current browser; some older apps and forms refuse it | Every browser, app and computer |
The PNG shows the WebP exactly as it is; it is just a larger file.
Before you convert WebP to PNG
- Expect a bigger file, especially for photos. If you don't need transparency, choose JPG instead.
- If a form sets a KB limit, a PNG photo may be too large; use JPG and compress it to KB.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert WebP to PNG?
Choose your WebP and press Convert: on this page PNG is already chosen. Then download the PNG.
Does PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent and see-through parts of the WebP stay that way in the PNG.
Why is the PNG bigger?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so a photo saved as PNG is much larger than the WebP. If you don't need transparency, JPG is far smaller.
Does converting improve the quality?
No. The PNG shows the WebP exactly as it is; it can't bring back detail the WebP left out.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes, up to 10 at a time, downloaded together as one ZIP file.
Are my images uploaded?
No. They are converted in your browser and never sent to a server. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
