What fits in 10 KB
| Picture | As JPG | As WebP |
|---|---|---|
| A detailed camera photo, 3:2 | about 320 by 220 px | about 440 by 290 px |
| A head-and-shoulders portrait, 3:4 | about 230 by 310 px | about 340 by 460 px |
Measured at good quality (80 %) on two real photos. Plain backgrounds, signatures and drawings fit far more pixels; busy pictures, such as leaves or crowds, fewer.
When 10 KB is asked for
- Signature uploads on online application forms.
- Small thumbnails, icons and avatars.
- Old systems and forms with very tight upload limits.
Tips for 10 KB
- A photo has to be small in pixels to fit: about 320 by 220 for a detailed photo. If the compressor can't reach 10 KB, let it make the photo smaller in pixels.
- Crop to just the face or the signature first, so the KB go to what matters.
- Plain white paper or a plain wall behind costs almost nothing.
- WebP fits more pixels in 10 KB, but most forms ask for JPG: check yours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 10 KB?
Choose your image and press Compress: on this page the size is already set to 10 KB. Then download the smaller file.
Will the file be exactly 10 KB?
As close as it can get without going over. ChobiKit tries different qualities and keeps the best one that stays under 10 KB, so the file may come out a little smaller.
Is 10 KB counted as 10,000 or 10,240 bytes?
Forms differ, so ChobiKit keeps the file under 10,000 bytes, which passes either way.
Can I get a signature under 10 KB?
Usually easily: a signature is mostly plain white, which takes very little space. Photograph it on plain white paper in good light. For a cleaned-up signature at an exact pixel size, use the photo and signature resizer.
Why won't my image get under 10 KB?
It has too many pixels for 10 KB even at the lowest quality. ChobiKit then offers to make it smaller in pixels and tries again. Cropping away what you don't need helps too.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It is compressed in your browser and never sent to a server. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
