Compress image to 50 KB

Make a photo smaller in KB, under any form's limit. Nothing is uploaded.

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC or AVIF, up to 20 MB. You can choose up to 10 images at once.

Your image stays on your device.

How to use it

  1. Choose one or more images.

  2. Pick a quality, or type the size you need in KB.

  3. Download the smaller file.

What fits in 50 KB

PictureAs JPGAs WebP
A detailed camera photo, 3:2about 850 by 570 pxabout 1080 by 720 px
A head-and-shoulders portrait, 3:4about 650 by 860 pxabout 1080 by 1440 px

Measured at good quality (80 %) on two real photos. Plain backgrounds, signatures and drawings fit far more pixels; busy pictures, such as leaves or crowds, fewer.

When 50 KB is asked for

  • Photos and scanned signatures on online application forms.
  • Avatars and profile photos.
  • Small images for websites, blogs and email newsletters.

Tips for 50 KB

  • A portrait of about 650 by 860 pixels fits at good quality, or a detailed photo of about 850 by 570.
  • As WebP, the same 50 KB holds about twice the pixels, if the place you upload to accepts WebP.
  • Remove what you don't need first: crop, then compress.
  • For a form with a pixel size and a KB limit, the photo and signature resizer does both at once.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 50 KB?

Choose your image and press Compress: on this page the size is already set to 50 KB. Then download the smaller file.

Will the file be exactly 50 KB?

As close as it can get without going over. ChobiKit tries different qualities and keeps the best one that stays under 50 KB, so the file may come out a little smaller.

Is 50 KB counted as 50,000 or 51,200 bytes?

Forms differ, so ChobiKit keeps the file under 50,000 bytes, which passes either way.

Will a 50 KB photo look good?

Yes, at the right size: a head-and-shoulders photo of about 650 by 860 pixels looks clear at 50 KB. A whole phone photo is far bigger, so it needs fewer pixels, which ChobiKit can do for you.

Why won't my image get under 50 KB?

It has too many pixels for 50 KB even at the lowest quality. ChobiKit then offers to make it smaller in pixels and tries again. Cropping away what you don't need helps too.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is compressed in your browser and never sent to a server. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
