Facebook's cover photo size
From Facebook's help page for a Page's cover photo:
| Loads fastest | 851 by 315 pixels, an sRGB JPG under 100 KB |
|---|---|
| Smallest | 400 by 150 pixels |

Making it look right
- The cover is a wide strip: pick a picture with its subject near the middle and space at the sides.
- Phones and computers show the cover differently, so keep faces and words near the centre.
- For a personal profile's cover, follow the same steps, then check the result on a phone and a computer after uploading.
- On many layouts the profile picture overlaps the cover's lower left: keep that corner plain.
Keeping it under 100 KB
A JPG at 851x315 is often already under 100 KB. If yours isn't, compress it to 100 KB after resizing: at this size the difference is hard to see, and the cover loads faster for every visitor.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Facebook cover photo?
Facebook says a Page's cover loads fastest as an sRGB JPG of 851 by 315 pixels under 100 KB, and must be at least 400 by 150. This page makes 851x315.
How do I make a cover photo from my picture?
Choose the picture, move the wide box over the part you want, press Resize and download. Then upload it as your cover in Facebook.
Why does my cover look different on my phone?
Facebook shows the cover at a different shape on phones and computers. Keep faces and text near the middle, and both views look right.
Can I fit the whole picture without cropping?
Yes: choose Whole photo, and a blurred, white or black border fills the sides.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. It is resized in your browser and never sent to a server, not even to the site you are posting to until you upload it there yourself. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
