A banner that works for you

  • A city, your workplace, or a plain colour with a short line about what you do.
  • Your profile photo overlaps the banner's lower left: keep that area plain.
  • A 4:1 strip is very wide; a landscape photo with its subject in the middle crops best.

LinkedIn banner tips

  • Start from a picture at least 1,584 pixels wide so the banner stays sharp.
  • Save as JPG for photos; PNG for text and logos keeps edges crisp.
  • Check it on your phone after uploading: phones show less of the sides.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a LinkedIn banner?

LinkedIn recommends 1,584 by 396 pixels for the background photo, under 8 MB, as JPG or PNG. This page makes 1584x396.

How do I make a LinkedIn banner from a photo?

Choose the photo, move the wide box over the part you want, press Resize and download. Then add it on your profile with the camera button on the background.

Why is my banner blurry on LinkedIn?

Usually because the picture was smaller than 1,584 pixels wide and LinkedIn stretched it. Start from a larger picture; the tool warns you when it has to enlarge.

Can I fit the whole picture without cropping?

Yes: choose Whole photo, and a blurred, white or black border fills the rest of the strip.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. It is resized in your browser and never sent to a server, not even to the site you are posting to until you upload it there yourself. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
