The safe area

TVs show the whole banner, computers a wide strip across the middle, and phones less still. Only the middle strip, about 1,545 by 423 pixels at 2,560 by 1,440, shows everywhere: keep your channel name, face and logo inside it.

Banner tips

  • Pick a wide picture with space around the subject; the crop box keeps the 16:9 shape.
  • A smaller picture is enlarged to fit and may look soft on TVs. Start from the largest you have.
  • The file has to be 6 MB or less. A JPG banner is usually well under that; if not, compress it.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a YouTube banner?

YouTube recommends 2,560 by 1,440 pixels and accepts at least 2,048 by 1,152, a 16:9 shape, up to 6 MB. This page makes 2560x1440.

How do I make a YouTube banner from my photo?

Choose the photo, move the crop box over the part you want, press Resize and download. Then upload it in YouTube Studio under Customisation, Branding.

Why is my text cut off on phones?

Phones show only the middle of the banner. Keep text and logos in the safe area, about 1,545 by 423 pixels in the middle of a 2,560 by 1,440 banner.

Can I fit a whole photo without cropping?

Yes: choose Whole photo, and the photo fits inside the banner with a blurred, white or black border.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. It is resized in your browser and never sent to a server, not even to the site you are posting to until you upload it there yourself. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Ready when you are

Free, with no sign-up, and nothing is uploaded.
