Where 500x500 is used

  • Product photos in online shop listings and catalogues.
  • Profile pictures that still look sharp when shown larger.
  • Square images for blog posts and cards on a web page.

Tips for 500x500

  • Leave a little space around a product, so it isn't cut off at the edges.
  • Centre the subject: square pictures are often shown cut into a circle.
  • A detailed photo comes out at around 60 KB as JPG, small enough for most upload limits.
  • Use the same size for every product photo, so the listing looks even.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 500x500?

Choose your image, move the box over the part you want to keep, and press Resize. The result is exactly 500 by 500 pixels, ready to download.

Will my image be stretched or squashed?

No. The box has the shape of 500x500, so the part you keep is only made larger or smaller, never pulled out of shape. Whatever is outside the box is cut off.

Is 500x500 big enough for a product photo?

For lists and small cards, yes. If the shop or site lets people zoom in, a larger square, such as 1000 pixels a side, shows more detail.

What if my image is smaller than 500x500?

It is enlarged to 500x500, which can make it look a little soft, and ChobiKit tells you before you resize. A larger box, or a larger original, keeps it sharper.

Can I resize to 500x500 without cropping?

Only if your image already has the same shape: then the box covers all of it. Otherwise use the image resizer, which keeps the whole picture in its own shape, so one side won't match 500x500.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is cropped and resized in your browser and never sent to a server. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
